When and how did you get into Garbage?
I bought a compilation cassette tape way back in 1995 which had the song Vow on it. It was the only song I played over and over and over. I fell in love with it there and then and it is still my favourite Garbage song to date. It wasn’t until 1998 when I was forming a band at highschool that the singer bought in Version 2.0 to have a listen to. I then realised who the band was and the songs they sung and the rest is history. Garbage has been my fav band ever since.
When did you start collecting?
I started collecting in 2003 when I had access to buying items off ebay. I had been browsing and drooling over all these Garbage items for a long time and when I got the chance to buy some I jumped at the chance.
Do you or did you have any aims when you started out collecting?
When I started I don’t think I did, but the first item I did buy off ebay was the Garbage Australasian Tour Souvenir edition so I think that was an aim then. These days I try and obtain overseas releases, trash items/promos and 7” vinyls which are still sealed. As I don’t have a credit card it’s not easy for me to buy items from overseas sellers, so when I see an overseas release on Ebay in Australia I go for it.
How big is your collection?
About 58 items at present.
8 albums
21 CD singles
5 MC singles
1 DVD single
5 vinyl
5 promo/trash items
13 other items
What is your favourite Garbage item in your collection?
I have 2. My sealed 7” of ‘Stupid Girl (blue cloth)’ and ‘Milk’.
How much do you think you have spent on your collection?
Geez, it’s a scary thought for me but I would be guessing somewhere around the $500AU mark…eek!
What’s the most you have spent on a Garbage item?
I think the most I have spent is around $50AUS
What’s the most you would ever spend on a Garbage item and what is it?
I like the debut 7” collection. So either a sealed Vow 7” metal sleeve or a Queer 7” with the bubble wrap still intact. I think I’d be willing to pay $50AU-$100AU for each if necessary.
Does your Garbage collecting Obsession stretch to seeing the band live in concert?
Eg: Do you follow the band from Show to Show for a period during a tour?
No, unfortunately.
Will you ever sell your Garbage collection? If you were asked this same question in 5 years time what would your answer be?
At this moment definitely not. But if at some point I really need the cash in an emergency situation then I would consider parting with my items, but only till then I’m keeping everything.
