When and how did you get into Garbage?
Back in ’95, I was chatting with a girl on a BBS, before the Internet became popular. Her info screen was filled with the lyrics from Queer. Upon questioning her about it, I decided to find out more about them. Then I heard OHWIR on the radio and fell in love. Once I saw Shirley prance around in that music video I became a fan and bought their debut cd. It took seeing them in concert in ’98 for their V2 tour for me to become a “Trasher”.
When did you start collecting?
The Push It video was amazing, and I wanted the single for it, while looking for it, I saw the singles for their previous releases, so I got those too. I found that their singles had bsides and remixes which I LOVED. So I continued collecting..
Do you or did you have any aims when you started out collecting?
I simply wanted their singles to collect all their bsides and remixes. Once I found they had remixes on vinyl not found on cd singles, I began to collect those. Once those were all obtained, I branched off to the next cool item.. Whether it be posters, t-shirts, magazines, awards, itineraries, memorabilia, etc. I found I easily would convince myself to add on another category to collect, since most of their items are pretty cool.
How big is your collection?
My collection is pretty huge right now. I list my collection on http://www.cherrylips.net but its always out of date, since I’m always getting something new off eBay.
What is your favourite Garbage item in your collection?
My Platinum & Gold S/T Awards are my favourites, since they have an awe factor to them which no other item has.
How much do you think you have spent on your collection?
I must have spent thousands and THOUSANDS, easily. I do remember how I would have orders placed with Map Records and EIL breaking the thousand mark.. and buying every poster at Push Posters and Mushroom Records. Then there are the rare items I’ve bid on at eBay, which must add up after a while. Guessing an exact figure would be mind-boggling.
What’s the most you have spent on a Garbage item?
The Platinum Garbage award. How much? Lets just say A LOT. I overpaid, but it was the first time I saw one, and I HAD to have it.
What’s the most you would ever spend on a Garbage item and what is it?
No Idea what the most I’d spend is. It depends how rare the item is, and how much I want it.
Does your Garbage collecting Obsession stretch to seeing the band live in concert?
Eg: Do you follow the band from Show to Show for a period during a tour?
I would love to do this, but I do have work obligations, and since work feeds my garbage habit, this wouldn’t be proactive. I’ve only gone to three garbage shows, and they’ve all been driving distance (30m – 3hrs away)
Will you ever sell your Garbage collection? If you were asked this same question in 5 years time what would your answer be?
I would never sell my garbage collection. Hell, I have a hard time even trading away the doubles/triples/quadruples I’ve collected. Since I still haven’t parted with my Hockey Cards that I collected as a kid, I doubt I get rid of these items either.
